How to connect GL Charge GlowBox Silver EV charger (Modbus RTU) with Reduxi controller
Connect the GL Charge GlowBox to Reduxi via Modbus RTU. The connection lets Reduxi execute dynamic load management (DLM) to protect the installation.
1 Prepare
1.1 Technical documentation
- GlowBox product page – Manufacturer page of the GlowBox charger (Iskraemeco eMobility)
1.2 Required equipment
- GL Charge GlowBox charger
- Reduxi Controller
- Cable for the Modbus RTU connection between the controller and the charger
- Laptop or tablet with internet access to configure the device in Reduxi
2 Connect the GlowBox to Reduxi with Modbus RTU
2.1 Physical connection between the Reduxi Controller and the GlowBox
Establish the Modbus RTU physical connection as shown in the picture.

On the left is a black Reduxi controller with the "reduxi" logo (lightning bolt symbol) on the top; its rear panel shows a round DC power jack, a small dot, an RJ45 Ethernet port with green and amber indicator and a black pluggable terminal block with printed labels. On the right is a top view of the circuit board: red block "RCM" at the top, a green multi-pin terminal block on the left edge, a block labelled "Master Connector" with pin numbers 1 to 6 (pins 2 and 1 pink: 24VDC and a second label; pins 4 and 3 blue: Master (A) and Master NEG. (B) as far as legible; pins 6 and 5 grey, unused), DIP Switches column on the right edge, black blocks "CT 3", "CT 1", "CT 2", a grey "SD" slot and a "USB" port. Two wires run from the terminal block on the controller to the Master Connector: a yellow wire to the upper blue cell (pin 4, A) and an orange wire to the lower blue cell (pin 3, B).
2.2 Set the DIP switches
For Modbus RTU, set the first 4 of the 6 DIP switches to OFF. DIP switches 5 and 6 define the slave address.
| DIP switches 5 – 6 | Modbus RTU ID |
|---|---|
00 (OFF, OFF) |
1 |
01 |
2 |
10 |
3 |
11 |
4 |
Example: DIP switches 1, 2, 3, 4 = OFF. DIP switches 5, 6 = OFF and OFF, which gives address 1.

| Connection | Local serial port |
| Port | Port 1 |
| Baud rate | 9600 bits/s |
| Data bits | 8 |
| Stop bits | 1 |
| Parity | None |
| Modbus unit ID |

Buttons at the bottom: Back (left), Test communication and Next (right, dark).
4.3 Test communication
Click Test communication at the lower right, below the communication channel fields. It checks that Modbus RTU communication is established and saves nothing. If the test succeeds, click Done: only Done creates the device.
Communication response:

Card "Current": Current L1 0.00 A; Current L2 0.00 A; Current L3 0.00 A; Max. current per phase 32.00 A; Per phase current setpoint 6.00 A (each with timestamp 02. 10. 2024 15:47:17). Card "Power": Import - active power 0.0 kW; Max. active power 22.1 kW; Min. active power 0.0 kW (timestamp 02. 10. 2024 15:47:17). Card "Energy": Import active energy 5,104.5 kWh (timestamp 02. 10. 2024 15:47:17). Card "Other": Communication error OFF (timestamp 02. 10. 2024 15:47:16); Control type AUTO; Error OFF; State name CABLE_UNPLUGGED... (text cut off with dots); timestamps 02. 10. 2024 15:47:17.
Once the device is added in the Configurator, you can monitor it in the Reduxi cloud application.
5.2 Use the charger in a strategy
To reduce energy costs with dynamic prices and dynamic tariffs, define a strategy as described in Strategies for Reduxi controller.
✓ Summary
Preparation (Point 1): Have the GlowBox, the Reduxi Controller and the cable ready.
GlowBox (Point 2): Connect the Modbus RTU cable. Set DIP switches 1–4 to OFF and 5–6 for the slave address.
Add to Reduxi (Points 3–4): Log in to the Reduxi web interface. Add an EV charger of type GL Charge GlowBox Silver, enter the serial port parameters and run Test communication.
Go live (Point 5): Check Last measurement and define a strategy.
→ Common issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Test communication fails | Check that the Modbus unit ID matches the DIP switches 5 and 6 (see Point 2.2) and that the wiring matches the picture in Point 2.1. |
| Open configurator does not open or stays empty | The tunnel is not active yet. Wait about 30 seconds and check that the controller is online. |
Login with admin is rejected |
The password was changed during installation. Ask the installer. The Reduxi account password does not work here. |
reduxi.local does not load |
Your device is not in the same network as the controller. Use the IP address or the tunnel connection. |
| Communication test fails, device shows offline | Check reachability, IP address / port / unit ID, and that the protocol is enabled on the device. |
