Cut energy costs by up to 70%: Reduxi integrates AlphaESS Smile Series Hybrid Inverters via Modbus TCP/IP or RTU.
1. Pysical connection
You have the option to connect Reduxi and Alpha in the following ways, depending on how your system was installed:
- Modbus TCP/IP via LAN cable
- Modbus TCP/IP via WiFi Dongle
- Modbus RTU
1.1 Modbus TCP/IP LAN
A symbolic picture of the entire connection from the Reduxi controller to the Inverter is displayed below:
Note: To set up a connection via Modbus TCP, you need the latest Firmware on the Inverter.
To perform the update, please contact AlphaESS support directly via email: info@alpha-ess.com
The firmware update also activates TCP communication.
Once the update is complete, proceed with step 2. Add AlphaESS Hybrid Inverter to the Reduxi system

Note: To set up a connection via Modbus TCP, you need the latest Firmware on the Inverter and on the Dongle.
To perform the update, please contact AlphaESS support directly via email: info@alpha-ess.com
The firmware update also activates TCP communication.
Once the update is complete, proceed with step 2. Add AlphaESS Hybrid Inverter to the Reduxi system

Note : The Inverter must have the latest firmware update.
To perform the update, please contact AlphaESS support directly via email: info@alpha-ess.com
The firmware update also activates RTU communication.
Once the update is complete, proceed with following step.
2. Add AlphaESS Hybrid Inverter to the Reduxi system
After connecting the Reduxi and the AlphaESS Hybrid Inverter, you can register it as a new device.
2.1 Select Add device
First, log-in to the local Reduxi configurator and add a new device by clicking the 'Add device' button.
2.2 Select AlphaESS Smile Series
Within the first step, basic settings are defined:
- Select Device type: Hybrid Inverter,
- Select Type: AlphaESS Smile Series,
- Name the device as you wish as an example: AlphaESS Smile G3-S5

2.3 Device Configuration for Communication Channel
The second step involves configuring the communication channel, which is essential for proper Modbus communication. In this step, the communication link between the Reduxi controller and the AlphaESS is established.
You can choose between Modbus TCP/IP or RTU connection (depending on the used device)
2.3.1 Modbus TCP
- Connection: TCP/IP
- IP: Enter the IP address of the AlphaESS Inverter or use the Scan for IP Button
Important: When using the scan button, you must select the corresponding IP address from the list that appears and add it by pressing the "select IP" button. - Port: 502
- Modbus unit ID: 85 (as default)
2.3.2 Modbus RTU
- Connection: Local Port
- Port: 1
- Baudrate: 9600
- Data Bits: 8
- Stop Bits: 1
- Parity: None
- Modbus Unit ID: 85 (as default)
2.4 Test communication
Below all fields of the Communication channel mentioned in the previous step, there is a "Test Communication" button.
This button is used to verify whether the Modbus connection between the devices is functioning correctly.
Successful response (example):
Unsuccessful response (example):
In this case, please check Settings, wiring and try again.
If the communication test was successful, save your entries by selecting the Done button:
2.5 Readings from Device
This section shows you how to check the device's measured values and whether it is communicating correctly. This can be done under "Devices /AlphaESS Smile G3-S5 /Last Measurement."
For advanced control, integrate the device into the Optimization modes of the Reduxi system.
Under Devices/AlphaESS G3-S5 in the Reduxi configurator, the control type must be set to AUTO so that commands for strategy will affect the battery.
To achieve maximal flexibility and energy cost reduction with respect to dynamic price and dynamic tariffs, please follow the instructions on how to define strategy at this link: Strategies for Reduxi controller.
After successfully adding the device, it can be monitored and controlled via the Reduxi application.
