Reduxi Controller: Installation & Setup Guide

From creating your location, through Wi‑Fi and grid configuration, to adding your first device in the local interface.

This guide walks you through the complete first-time setup of a new Reduxi Controller – from creating the initial location in the Reduxi App to adding your first device (e.g. an inverter) in the Controller's local interface.

ℹ️

Two interfaces, one process The initial setup runs through the Reduxi App (location, Wi‑Fi, grid connection, cloud connection). To add individual devices such as inverters, battery storage, or EV chargers, you then use the local interface (the "Configurator") directly in a browser – reachable via the Controller's IP address on your local network.

Before you start, make sure the Controller is mounted and powered. What that takes depends on which variant you have.

Each variant ships with everything you need to power the Controller:

⚠️

Note for electricians – DIN‑rail installation Mounting the Controller inside a distribution board must be carried out by a qualified electrician, using standard hand tools. Switch off the relevant circuit breaker before starting. Use a 13A 1+N, type C circuit breaker on the power supply's input. Snap the Reduxi components onto the DIN rail, then wire a 2‑core cable from the power supply to the breaker (1.5 mm²), and continue on to the Controller with a cable of at least 1 mm².

Once the Controller is mounted and powered, make sure you also have:

  • Smartphone or tablet with the Reduxi App installed (iOS or Android)
  • A Reduxi cloud account – see Create your Reduxi account below if you don't have one yet
  • Credentials for the local Wi‑Fi network at the installation site (network name/SSID and password), if the Controller will connect via Wi‑Fi
  • Knowledge of the fuse ratings (L1/L2/L3) at the installation site's meter cabinet
  • Laptop or tablet with internet access, for reaching the local interface (Configurator)

💡

Planning which devices to connect? Reduxi supports a large and growing range of inverters, batteries, EV chargers, and meters. If you already have your Controller and know which devices you'll connect, this was most likely already confirmed and you can skip ahead.

1 Create your Reduxi account

If you don't already have a Reduxi cloud account, create one before you start configuring the Controller. Registration is done directly in the Reduxi App.

Open the Reduxi App and tap "Register a new account" on the sign-in screen.

Enter your first name, last name, and e‑mail address, then tap Next.

Set a password (2/3)
Choose a password with at least 8 characters, including one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one special character. Enter it twice and tap Next.

Accept the terms (3/3)
Confirm "I agree with terms and conditions" and "I agree with privacy policy". The marketing consent checkbox is optional. Tap Finish registration.

Confirm your e‑mail address
Reduxi sends a confirmation e‑mail. Open it and tap Confirm your email before the link expires.

Sign in
Once your account is verified, return to the app and sign in with the e‑mail address and password you just set.

Trouble registering? If a field is highlighted in red, double-check that all required fields are filled in correctly. If the confirmation link has expired, request a new one and try again. Still stuck? Contact our support team at support@reduxi.zendesk.com.

2 Create a location in the Reduxi App

Every Reduxi device is assigned to a location – typically the physical place where the Controller is installed.

Select "Configure Controller"
On the "Welcome to Reduxi" screen, under "Configure new Reduxi device", tap Configure Controller.

Allow access to the device's location
The app asks for permission to access the device's location. Tap ALLOW – this is what lets Reduxi show accurate weather data for the installation site (used for forecasts and energy-optimization). If you tap DENY, setup still works, but weather-related data for this location will be less accurate.

Enter a location name
On the "Location setup" screen, enter a name for this location (e.g. Example Home).

Choose the region
Select the country and region yourself – these are not detected automatically – then check the suggested time zone (e.g. Europe/Vienna) and correct it if needed, since some regions span more than one time zone.

Confirm the coordinates and save
Check the pre-filled latitude/longitude (based on the location permission from step 2) and adjust the pin on the map if needed, then tap Save location.

3 Connect the Controller to the app

Next, your smartphone or tablet is connected to the Controller so it can be configured. There are two ways to do this:

Allow camera access when prompted, then scan the QR code on the Reduxi Controller's label.

Connecting to the device's Wi‑Fi
The app automatically connects your smartphone to the Controller's own Wi‑Fi access point (network name starts with Reduxi). This step can take up to a minute depending on the device.

Confirm the device
Once the device is found, the app displays its unique device ID. Tap Next to continue.

The Controller has been detected and your phone is connected to it – ready for configuration.

Connect manually (no QR code)

No QR code, camera access denied, or the code won't scan? You can connect the same way, just without scanning:

Tap "Add manually"
On the QR scanning screen, tap Add manually at the bottom right (this is separate from the "Where to find QR code?" hint, which only shows where the label is printed).

Join the Controller's Wi‑Fi network by hand
Open your phone's own Wi‑Fi settings and connect directly to the Controller's access point (network name starts with Reduxi, printed on the device label together with its password). Then return to the Reduxi App – it will detect the device the same way as after a QR scan, and you continue from "Confirm the device" above.

4 Initial setup of the Controller

During initial setup you define how the Controller connects to the internet and which grid-connection values apply.

Set up the network connection

The Controller needs a network connection to function. You can use a wireless network (Wi‑Fi), a wired network (Ethernet), or a mobile network (SIM card) – choose whichever is available at the installation site. At least one option must be configured before you can continue.

Initial configuration – choose wired, wireless, or mobile connection (the Controller's unit ID is blanked out in this image for privacy). After initial setup, the Controller's own Wi‑Fi access point is disabled, so Reduxi suggests setting up Wi‑Fi or Ethernet with a static IP address.
📶 Wireless connection (Wi‑Fi)

Tap Wireless connection (Wi‑Fi) on the initial configuration screen, then either select a network automatically or set it up manually:

Select the network and enter the password
Tap the Network name (SSID) field to pick your Wi‑Fi network from the list, then enter the matching password. If the network isn't listed, tap Refresh networks to search again.

Or set it up manually
If the network doesn't broadcast its name, or you'd rather not scan, tap Manual network setup to type in the network name (SSID) and password yourself instead of picking from the list.

Wi‑Fi also lets you choose how the Controller gets its IP address:

  • Automatic IP (DHCP) – the Controller gets its IP address from your router. You'll need to look up that IP address afterwards to reach the local interface.
  • Static IP – you set the IP address, netmask and gateway yourself. Recommended, since the address won't change over time; make sure it isn't already used by your DHCP server.

⚠️

Enter the Wi‑Fi password carefully Double-check the password before confirming with Next – a typo isn't always flagged right away, but it will prevent the Controller from joining the network, and the setup won't complete successfully.
🔌 Wired connection (Ethernet)

Tap Wired connection (Ethernet) if a network cable is connected directly to the Controller, then choose how it gets its IP address:

📱 Mobile connection (SIM card)

For Controllers with a SIM card installed, tap Mobile connection (SIM card) and enter the details provided by your mobile carrier:

  • PIN – the SIM card's PIN code, if it has one
  • APN – access point name for your mobile carrier's data network
  • Username / Password – only if required by your carrier
  • Dial-up number – usually left at the default *99#

Don't have a SIM card yet? Reduxi can also provide a SIM card for the Controller, against a one-time activation fee plus a monthly charge.

Once a method shows a green checkmark, tap Save configuration. The app saves the settings to the Controller (this can take up to a minute), reconnects to it on the new network, and then saves the configuration to the Reduxi cloud.

Recommendation For easier future access to the local interface, Reduxi recommends setting a static IP address for Wi‑Fi or Ethernet, so the Controller's network address doesn't change over time.

Grid settings

Once at least one network connection is configured, you'll be asked for details about the grid connection at the installation site.

Fuse ratings and import/export power limits for the grid connection.
  • Fuse L1 / L2 / L3 – per-phase fuse rating at the meter cabinet, in amps (e.g. 35)
  • Import active power limit (kW) – maximum power drawn from the grid
  • Export active power limit (kW) – maximum power fed back into the grid

The import and export power limits are normally derived from the fuse ratings you enter. If your grid operator specifies its own import/export limits, use those values instead of the fuse-based ones.

ℹ️

230 V / 400 V grids only This calculation assumes a standard 230 V (single-phase) / 400 V (three-phase) grid connection. For installations on a different grid voltage (e.g. 800 V), don't enter fuse ratings – enter only the import/export power limits specified by the grid operator.

⚠️

Double-check these values The fuse ratings and power limits should match the actual values at the meter cabinet, or the requirements set by your grid operator. Incorrect entries can lead to inaccurate grid monitoring or limiting. When in doubt, check with your electrician or grid operator.

The import/export power limits can also be left for later using Skip, and added afterwards in the location settings. Tapping Save stores the configuration on the Controller and in the Reduxi cloud.

Confirm the success message
The app confirms: "Device configured successfully". The configuration has been saved both on the Controller and in the Reduxi cloud, and your location has been created and is ready to use. Tap Add devices to continue – this opens the Controller's local interface, covered next. (Prefer to set up notifications first instead? That's covered as an optional step further below.)

Reaching the Controller: locally or via tunnel

To add devices or change settings, you need to reach the Controller's local interface (the Reduxi Configurator) from a phone, tablet, or PC. There are two ways to do this – no sign-in or password is required at the Controller either way.

If you're on site and connected to the same Wi‑Fi or Ethernet network as the Controller, no extra step is needed: open the local interface directly via the Controller's local IP address, or tap Open local interface right on the success screen above. Continue straight to adding your first device.

Prefer to set up notifications before adding any devices? From the success screen above, tap Finish setup instead of Add devices. 🌐 Tunnel connection (optional)

Only needed if you won't be on the same network as the Controller when adding devices – for example, when finishing the setup remotely rather than on site. From the dashboard, tap the ☰ menu icon at the top left to open the navigation drawer, then tap Reduxi devices under "Reduxi device management". Selecting your Controller opens its device page; under Connect to configurator, tap Activate tunnel connection to reach the local interface remotely.

→ Common issues

Issue Solution
QR code isn't recognized Make sure there's enough light and hold the camera at a steady, suitable distance from the label – use the torch icon in the scanner if it's dark. Clean the camera lens if the image looks blurry. If it still won't scan, tap Add manually at the bottom right and connect via the Controller's own Wi‑Fi network instead (see Connect manually).
Reduxi device isn't found Check that your smartphone is still connected to the Controller's Wi‑Fi access point (in your phone's Wi‑Fi settings, not just the Reduxi App) – some phones disconnect from networks without internet access after a while. If it's disconnected, reconnect manually, then restart the Controller (power off/on) and repeat the connection process from the start.
Wi‑Fi connection fails or the Controller won't join the network Double-check the network name (SSID) and password for typos – both are case-sensitive. Make sure the network is 2.4 GHz (most IoT devices, including the Controller, don't support 5 GHz-only networks) and that the signal is strong enough at the installation site. Retry with Manual network setup if the network doesn't appear in the list.
Local interface (Configurator) isn't reachable Make sure the device you're using is on the same network as the Controller; re-check the current IP address in the app under Settings → Reduxi devices. If you're away from the local network, use the tunnel connection instead. If a static IP was configured, confirm it doesn't collide with another device on the network.
Tunnel connection won't activate or times out Confirm the Controller has an active internet connection (Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, or SIM) and shows as Connected in the app. Tunnel connections can take a few moments to establish – wait and retry before assuming it has failed.
Weather data or forecasts look inaccurate Check that location access was allowed during setup (see Step 2) and that the coordinates saved for the location match the actual installation site.
Grid monitoring or limiting values look wrong Re-check the fuse ratings and import/export power limits under Grid settings against the meter cabinet and your grid operator's requirements – and confirm you used the correct method for your grid voltage (230 V/400 V vs. other voltages).
Test communication to the new device fails First confirm the device itself has been actively switched into its communication mode (Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, OCPP, etc.) in its own manufacturer app or web interface – this is the most common cause. Then check the target device's IP address, port, and Modbus unit ID, and verify its network or RS485 wiring. Make sure the device you're adding is on the same network as the Controller, and that no firewall is blocking the connection.
