Device settings, edit and delete
Change a device's name, connection and advanced options such as read-only mode, power limits, SOC limits and phase mapping, or delete it.
→ Overview
The Details tab of a device holds all its settings: the general data from the Add device wizard, the communication channel, the model-specific device configuration, and an Advanced configuration (optional) section with settings the wizard does not ask for. Here you also test the connection and delete the device.
Saving restarts the communication with the device, so check the values with Test communication before you click Save.
1 Edit a device
To show all fields, the screenshots in this chapter have every question of Advanced configuration (optional) switched to Yes. On a real device, leave a question at No unless you need it: No means the default shown next to the switch is used.
Save stops and restarts the communication with the device. For a few seconds the device has no current values, and every strategy that measures or controls it restarts about 4 seconds later. Do not save during a test that must not be interrupted.
Changes take effect only after Save. If you leave the page with unsaved changes, the browser asks whether you want to leave.
2 General configuration
| Field | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Your name for the device, shown in the menu, the device list, strategies and charts. | text |
| Type | The device model. Cannot be changed here. To change the model, delete the device and add it again. | read-only |
| Categories | The categories the device counts in on Home and in summaries: Grid, Solar power plant, Battery, EV charger, HVAC, Other. A device can have several, for example a hybrid inverter is Solar power plant, Battery and Grid. Click × to remove one, click the field to add one. | from the Device type |
| Location | Where the device sits in the installation: Main (at the grid connection) or Sub (other meters and devices behind it). It is a label: which meter measures the grid connection for regulation is set in the strategy's Included items. | Main / Sub · model default |
| Energy direction | Whether the device consumes, produces or both: Consumption, Production, Consumption and production. It is a label and does not change the sign of the values. To correct signs, use Do you want to invert direction for energy import and export? | model default |
Home adds up every device in a category. If a battery with its own grid meter and a separate grid meter are both in the Grid category, the grid power on Home is counted twice. Give the Grid category only to the devices that measure the grid connection.
3 Communication channel
These fields are the same as in step 2 of the wizard: Connection, IP with Scan for IP, Port with Test port, Extended IP recovery, or the serial settings Port, Baud rate, Data bits, Stop bits and Parity. They are described in Add a device, section Step 2: Communication channel.
After you save a wrong IP address, port, unit ID or serial setting, the device goes offline (Communication error ON). The strategy then stops controlling it, and if it is the grid meter, the strategy falls back to its safe values. Always run Test communication before you click Save.
4 Device configuration
This section holds the settings of the model. Common fields:
| Field | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Modbus unit ID | Modbus address of the device. Must match the device's own setting and be unique on an RS-485 line. | number · model default |
| Is meter installed? | Batteries and hybrid inverters: whether the system has its own meter at the grid connection. Yes adds the Grid category to the device and lets the controller use the device's grid measurement. | Yes / No · model default |
| Per phase max. current | EV chargers: where the maximum charging current comes from. Auto detect from EVSE uses the value the charger reports. Manual override uses Per phase max. current manual override. | option · Auto detect from EVSE |
| Per phase max. current manual override | EV chargers: maximum charging current per phase, used when Manual override is selected (In effect when manual override is selected). Use it to keep a charger below its hardware rating, for example because of a smaller supply cable. It becomes the device's Max. current per phase. | A · default 32 |
| Command timeout | SolarEdge inverters: how long the inverter waits for a new command from the controller before it falls back to Fallback active power limit. Written to the inverter when the device starts. | s · model default |
| Fallback active power limit | SolarEdge inverters: the output the inverter falls back to when it loses the connection to the controller (Fallback active power when controller lost connection to inverter. % from rated power.). | % of rated power · model default |
If the controller stops (for example during a reboot or a network failure), the inverter keeps Fallback active power limit until the controller is back. On a zero-export site, a high value can export power to the grid against the connection agreement; 0 % stops PV production completely during that time.
5 Advanced configuration (optional)
Each setting is a question with a Yes / No switch. No uses the default shown next to the switch. Yes shows the field where you enter your own value.
Timing
| Setting | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to set data saving interval? | Interval for storing measurements: Every minute, Every 5 minutes, Every 10 minutes, Every 15 minutes, Every 30 minutes, Every hour, Every day. Currently not used: devices store at most one value per signal per minute whatever is selected. | option · Default: 1 min |
| Do you want to set reading delay? | Pause between two readings of the device. Raise it for slow devices or busy RS-485 lines. With many devices the controller raises it automatically (not for energy meters). | ms · Default: 1000 ms |
| Do you want to set writing delay? | Pause between two write cycles (setpoints) to the device. With many devices the controller raises it automatically. | ms · Default: 1000 ms |
| Do you want to set device timeout? | If the controller receives no valid reading for this long, it sets Communication error to ON: the device counts as offline, strategies stop controlling it and the Health check reports DEVICE_COMM_ERROR. Values below 5 s are treated as 5 s. | s · model default, for example 20 s |
| Do you want to set device reaction time? | How long the device needs to follow a new setpoint. The strategy uses it to wait for the device before it corrects again. Empty = the controller measures it, or uses the model's default. | s · empty |
Some devices answer slowly (for example data loggers that poll the inverter themselves). If Communication error switches ON and OFF again and again, raise the device timeout. A very long timeout delays the reaction of the strategy to a real failure, so keep it as short as the device allows.
Power limits
| Setting | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to set export power generation limits and capabilities? — Maximum | The largest power the device may deliver (export): PV output, battery discharge power. It replaces the device's own maximum, and the strategy never asks for more. | kW · empty = device value |
| … export — Minimum | The power the device must always deliver. Used only when no import Maximum is set. Leave empty for normal devices. | kW · empty |
| Do you want to set import power consumption limits and capabilities? — Maximum | The largest power the device may draw (import): battery charging power, EV charger power, heat pump power. It replaces the device's own maximum. | kW · empty = device value |
| … import — Minimum | The power the device must always draw. Used only when no export Maximum is set. Leave empty for normal devices. | kW · empty |
Use the Maximum fields to keep one device below its rating, for example a battery whose inverter may not charge with more than 3 kW on that site. The new limit appears as Max active power / Min active power on Last measurements.
Battery
Shown for batteries and hybrid inverters.
| Setting | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to set battery capacity? | Usable capacity of the battery. Replaces the value the battery reports, as Max capacity on Last measurements. Used for the state of charge on Home and by the energy manager. | kWh · empty = reported value |
| Do you want to set min. battery SOC? | The battery is not discharged below this state of charge. The controller stops discharging about 0.5 % above it. A strategy can raise the limit but not lower it. | % · empty = reported value |
| Do you want to set discharge derating range? | Gradually reduces the discharge power as the battery approaches its minimum SOC. Example from the tooltip: minimum SOC 20 % and range 5 → discharge power starts decreasing at 25 % and reaches zero at 20 %. Empty or 0 = no derating. |
SOC percentage points · empty |
| Do you want to set max. battery SOC? | The battery is not charged above this state of charge. The controller stops charging about 0.5 % below it. A strategy can lower the limit but not raise it. | % · empty = reported value |
| Do you want to set charging derating range? | Gradually reduces the charging power as the battery approaches its maximum SOC. Example: maximum SOC 100 % and range 5 → charging power starts decreasing at 95 % and reaches zero at 100 %. Empty or 0 = no derating. |
SOC percentage points · empty |
A minimum SOC below the manufacturer's recommendation can deep-discharge the battery and void its warranty. Keep min. battery SOC at or above the value in the battery's manual.
EV charger
| Setting | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to set power distribution priority? | Which chargers get power first when there is not enough for all: Lowest, Low, Normal, High, Highest. Chargers with a higher priority are served first. | option · Default: No |
Read-only, direction, phases and filtering
| Setting | What it does | Unit / default |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to limit communication with the device to read-only? | Yes: the controller only reads the device and never writes to it. The device is no longer controlled by any strategy, the Control type card disappears from Last measurements and the Health check shows DEVICE_READ_ONLY. In Included items the strategy shows Read-only device can not be regulated. | Yes / No · Default: No |
| Do you want to invert direction for energy import and export? | Yes: swaps import and export power and energy and reverses the sign of active power and phase currents. Use it when a meter or its current transformers are installed the other way round. See Invert import and export. | Yes / No · Default: No |
| L1 is connected to main feed, L2 …, L3 … | Which phase of the site's main feed each terminal of the device is connected to: L1, L2, L3 or Disabled (terminal not connected). The controller moves the per-phase values of the device to the right phase of the site. | default L1 → L1, L2 → L2, L3 → L3 |
| Enable outlier detector | Yes: readings with implausible values are discarded, for example missing numbers, percentages outside 0–100 %, frequency outside 40–70 Hz, 0 V on a live phase, values far outside the device's limits, or jumps that are physically impossible. The whole reading is discarded, not just the bad value. | Yes / No · Default: No (some models switch it on) |
With read-only switched on, the controller sends no setpoints to the device. A battery, PV inverter or EV charger then runs on its own settings and is no longer kept within the grid limits and fuses of the strategy. Use it only for devices that must be monitored and never controlled, for example a device controlled by another system.
For a single-phase device connected to phase L2 of the site: set L1 is connected to main feed to L2, and L2 … and L3 … to Disabled. The device's current then counts on L2 of the site, where the fuse is loaded.
Invert import and export
Check the sign of a meter once after installation: while the site draws power from the grid, Active power of the grid meter must be positive. If it is negative, the meter or its current transformers are mounted the other way round.
- Best fix: turn the current transformers or correct the wiring on site.
- If that is not possible: switch Do you want to invert direction for energy import and export? to Yes, save, and check the sign again.
With an inverted grid meter, the strategy sees import as export. It may then charge batteries and start EV chargers while the site actually imports, and overload the grid connection. After changing the setting, check Active power with a known load before you leave the site.
6 Buttons
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Delete device | Deletes the device after confirmation. See Delete a device. |
| How to configure? | Opens the setup help for this model. Shown only for models that have one. |
| Test communication | Reads the device once with the settings on the screen (saved or not) and shows the result. Nothing is saved. See Add a device, section Test communication. |
| Save | Saves all settings. The device restarts with the new settings; strategies that use it restart about 4 seconds later. The change is recorded in the Audit log and reported to the Reduxi Cloud. |
7 Delete a device
After OK the Configurator shows Successfully deleted and opens the device list. The controller then:
- stops communicating with the device,
- removes it from every strategy (Included items); those strategies restart about 4 seconds later,
- deletes all stored measurements of the device about 15 seconds later,
- records the deletion in the Audit log and reports it to the Reduxi Cloud.
The device's measurement history is deleted permanently. Adding the same device again creates a new device with an empty history, and you have to add it to the strategies again. If you only want to stop controlling the device, set its Control type to Off or switch on read-only instead.
If you delete the meter that the strategy uses to measure the grid connection, the strategy no longer knows the grid power. Add the new meter and include it as a measurement device before you delete the old one.
