Updating the controller software
Keep the controller software up to date automatically, or install a new version from the Reduxi Cloud or from a file.
→ Overview
The Update page installs new controller software in three ways:
- Auto update: the controller installs new versions by itself, inside a time window you choose.
- Manual update from Cloud: you pick a version offered by the Reduxi Cloud and install it now.
- Manual update from file: you upload an update file you received from Reduxi.
Auto update and the cloud list need a working connection to the Reduxi Cloud.
About 5 seconds after the update has been downloaded or uploaded, the controller reboots to install it. Until it is running again, the Configurator, the cloud connection and all connectors are offline and the controller does not control any device. What each device does meanwhile depends on its own fallback settings. Do not switch off the power and do not unplug the controller while the update is in progress. Plan the update for a time when a short loss of control is acceptable.
Download a backup on Settings → System → Configuration → Backup before you update. A backup can be restored on the same or a newer software version, never on an older one.
1 Install an update now
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Version | Build date and time of a version offered by the Reduxi Cloud. Only the newest version of each channel that is newer than the installed one is listed. |
| Channel | Release channel of the version: STABLE, BETA or ALPHA. |
| Install | Downloads that version and installs it; the controller reboots. Shown only for versions newer than the installed one. |
| No patches available | No newer version is offered, or the controller has no cloud connection. Check the cloud icon at the top right. |
| Installed firmware version | Build date and time of the software that runs now. Same value as Firmware version on the Identifier page. |
When you install a BETA or ALPHA version, the confirmation dialog warns: these versions are intended for early testing and may not be fully stable; you may see unexpected behaviour, errors or missing functions. Install them only on a controller where you can accept that, and only when Reduxi asks you to. For normal sites use STABLE.
2 Turn on auto update
| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Auto update | Active: the controller looks for a new version and installs it by itself. Inactive: nothing is installed without you. | Inactive |
| Time | Window in which an automatic update may start: 00:00 - 04:00, 04:00 - 08:00, 08:00 - 12:00, 12:00 - 16:00, 16:00 - 20:00 or 20:00 - 23:59, in the controller's local time. Shown only when Auto update is Active. | 01:00-02:00 |
| Channel | Release channel the controller follows: STABLE, BETA or ALPHA. | STABLE |
| Save | Saves the auto update settings. The change is recorded in the Audit log. | — |
How auto update works:
- While auto update is active, the controller asks the Reduxi Cloud for new versions once an hour, at a quarter past the hour.
- If a newer version exists in the chosen Channel and the current time is inside Time, it downloads the version and reboots to install it, without asking.
- Outside the window, or without a cloud connection, nothing is installed.
An automatic update stops control for the duration of the reboot. Choose a Time window in which a short loss of control does not hurt, for example when there is no PV production and no EV charging. Never combine auto update with the ALPHA or BETA channel on a customer site.
3 Install an update from a file
Use this when the controller has no cloud connection and Reduxi support has sent you an update file.
The controller does not check the file before it installs it. Upload only update files you received from Reduxi for this controller.
4 After the update
- You can log in again.
- Installed firmware version shows the new version.
- The cloud icon at the top right shows a connection.
- Devices and strategies are running: check Home and Health check.
- If auto update is on, Channel is STABLE and Time lies in a quiet period.
