Open VPN
Connect the controller to a VPN with the OpenVPN client configuration you received from Reduxi.
→ Overview
The controller has a built-in OpenVPN client. With a VPN configuration from Reduxi, the controller connects to the Reduxi VPN, and support or the installer can reach it remotely, independent of the cloud connection.
The page shows the VPN Status and one Config field that holds the complete OpenVPN client configuration.
The OpenVPN configuration includes the certificates and private key that give access to the VPN. Do not send the file or the content of the Config field to anyone, do not paste it into tickets or chats, and do not share screenshots of this page while it is filled in. Each controller gets its own configuration; never copy one controller's configuration to another.
1 Set up the VPN
| Element | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Connected. IP: … with the controller's address in the VPN, or Not connected. | Not connected |
| Refresh icon | Reads the status again. The status does not refresh by itself. | — |
| Config | Complete OpenVPN client configuration as text. Empty = VPN off. Lines with script-security are disabled by the controller, so the configuration cannot run scripts. |
empty |
| Save | Stores the configuration and restarts the VPN client straight away. The change is recorded in the Audit log (secrets are hidden there). | — |
Save restarts the VPN at once. If you are connected to the Configurator through this VPN, your session drops. A wrong configuration, or an empty Config field, leaves the controller unreachable over the VPN until someone fixes it on site, through the cloud or over the local network.
2 Turn the VPN off
3 Checklist
- The configuration file is the one Reduxi issued for this controller.
- The whole file was pasted, from the first line to the last.
- Status shows "Connected. IP: …".
- The configuration file is stored safely and has not been shared.
- A backup was downloaded after the VPN was set up (the backup can include the Open VPN configuration).
